As the New Year approaches, is Social Security on your 2016 Checklist? If not, it should be.
Market Roundup
By far, the biggest news this year is that Congress passed legislation on Nov. 2, 2015 …legislation that substantially changed some popular Social Security strategies that have been available for years.
In a previous article, I went in depth about these changes. So, if you haven’t studied these changes yet, you should go back and re-read both of my articles.
- New Social Security Rules & Major Changes: Who Will Be Impacted (Part 1)?
- New Social Security Rules & Major Changes: Who Will Be Impacted (Part 2)?
The changes are significant especially for those already over 62 by Dec. 31, 2015.
The File and Suspend strategy has been significantly modified and the Restricted Application strategy is being eliminated for those born in 1954 or later (with the exception of those filing for a survivor benefit).

Changes set for Social Security in 2016. |
For those that want to read more about these changes, we cover them in-depth here: http://socialsecurityadvisors.com/changes.
Below, are some important changes and tips that you should be aware of:
No Benefit Increase
Due to lower inflation, there will be no COLA (cost of living adjustment) in 2016. So if you’re already receiving Social Security, your benefit amount is likely to remain the same. This has occurred a few times in recent years because of the lower inflationary environment that we’ve been in since the last recession.
Same Maximum Taxable Earnings
Also because of the lack of a COLA in 2016, the maximum taxable earnings limit will remain at $118,500 in 2016. This means that the first $118,500 of your wages or salary will be subject to the same Social Security payroll tax as in 2015; and any salary or wages over the $118,500 will only be subject to the Medicare portion of the payroll tax.
Work Earnings Limits
If you’re under Full Retirement Age (66 for those born between 1943 and 1954), be careful when deciding when to claim your Social Security. If you attempt to collect your benefits while you’re working, you could be subject to the Earnings Test. Earning more than $15,720 in 2015 while collecting a Social Security benefit will cause the Social Security Administration to withhold $1 for every $2 in earnings over the Earnings Limit.
Filing in 2016? Consider Using a Protective Filing Statement
If you’re thinking that you might want to file for Social Security in 2016, you should strongly consider filing a Protective Filing Statement. By doing so, you’ll create a reservation date that will give you the ability to receive retroactive benefits back to the date of filing a Protective Filing Statement.
So for example, if you file a Protective Filing Statement in February, but don’t actually file your full application for benefits until July, the Protective Filing Statement date of February can be used to obtain retroactive benefits back to that original date.
You should speak to a Social Security advisor to determine whether this may be beneficial for you. For help with a Protective Filing Statement, you can also visit: http://ApplyForSocialSecurity.com.
Is Your Earnings History Accurate?
Make sure that you check your earnings record with the Social Security Administration on your Social Security statement. It’s important because if there are errors in your earnings record, you won’t receive all of the Social Security benefits that you have earned. If there are errors, you have 3 years, 3 months, and 15 days to correct them. After that, it’s too late.
Self-Employed? Optimize the Split of Your Income
If you and your spouse are self-employed and work in the business together, you’ll want to take an especially close look at how you should be optimizing your wages and salary to maximize the Social Security credits that you’re eligible for as a couple. Properly apportioning wages and salary can mean extra Social Security benefits for you as a couple over the long-term.
Setup a Social Security Account
If you haven’t already, setup a Social Security account on the Social Security Administration’s website at http://socialsecurity.gov/myaccount. Here you will be able to obtain your latest Social Security statement, check your earnings record, and otherwise manage your account. There’s no age restriction, so even those that are not quite as near to claiming Social Security can still benefit from this advice.
As always, making the optimal Social Security claiming decision and maximizing your benefits is complicated. You should work with a Social Security advisor that is an expert in the myriad of strategies that are available to you or use one of the online tools that can help you such as the one offered by Social Security Advisors; Social Security Advisors can even handle your Social Security filing for you.

Good Day,
Speaking of retirement. Where can I get discounted annuities? Ex. Buying one deep below face value. Thanks.
I have been following the market’s trends for the past two weeks. It appears that not only did Wall Street get a lump of coal in their stocking, now it seems that it will be Maalox instead of champagne and lox.
What say you? Happy New Year anyway.
Might have been a lump of something else. Might require a Pepto Bismal/ Milk of Magnesia toddy…(<:

Since the Fed rate hike gold has done next to nothing. Is it telling us the Fed decision was nothing of any practical significance? Jim
Hi Jim, it is a sorry day when the Government decides not to increase my SS check! My
wife and I are in our 80s and we depend our SS checks to pay our bills. Our Mortgage Pmts. are $1,162.67 and my monthly home owners assoc. payments raised 10% to
$360.00. We are struggling and hoping a small increase in SS would HELP!
With car pmts, phone bills, cable & computer bill, insurance and food and medical bills?
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours – Kum Suk and Ralph Weiss, Sr. – 12/30/2015
I can’t imagine being 80’s and still having a mortgage… I live “simply”, and no real plans for exotic travel, etc. during retirement (hopefully in the next year or so!). My goal is everything paid off, except taxes, utilities and health care. The health care is the scary part, as I have No Idea what it costs per month at 62 or 63 without MediCare. Could it eat up my whole SS benefits??? Happy New Year!
Hey Tex
Give Thailand a thought. Better weather cheaper living. You can buy health care plans here till your 70 and operations are a lot cheaper. I lot of expats living here. Its an option to consider
Tex…agree with paying everything off. I am 63 and decided to retire. Health care expenses are anywhere from $600-850 depending on the coverage you select. It has increased every yr. Obamacare also adds on things to be covered so the last 3 yrs ( I was self employed before retiring ) the insurance I had has been discontinued. That means HOURS on the phone or computer trying to find a comparable policy. And yes, it can take a large chunk of your SS check depending on your policy and your SS benefits. I didn’t apply for SS but know how much I will receive.
Ralph, It’s looks like our generation, that had it so good growing up, is going to be facing our toughest challenge in our golden years. We worked hard for forty plus years and paid into these social programs that seem to be providing us with minimal security. I too have a mortgage at 65. I had to refinance a couple of times to pay my four kids outrageous college costs. My parents generation sacrificed so much for me I felt compelled to do nothing less for mine. I’m a tough old Louisians redneck. I’ll get by government or no government. I can’t tell all of you: “Dean” Chuck Burton, M$AU, ToommyR, Mule, Will, Gordon, even the snarky Phil and Eagle, and the rest of you, how much I have enjoyed our interchange this year. Even when I have disagreed with you I still had to think and reexamine my beliefs which is nothing but good. I hope you all have a happy and very prosperous New Year. Jim
Thanks Jim
Again keep all your options on the table. Yes our “golden” years are here. I am lucky. I retired early went to Mexico for 10 years and then Thailand. Governments are not our friend. My daughter tells me everything is going up in price. 5% or more inflation when you strip out all the lies governments tell us. I listened to the government and saved for my retirement and now look where that has got me. Nowhere. All this money printing is marginalizing my savings to the point where I am lucky to stay even. They are papering over gold to kill it as an alternative to paper money. Gold paper with no or little physical gold to back it up. Companies are all thieves and liars as well. Apple just got dinged for 300 million for tax manipulations by Italy. Just the tip of the iceberg and in Apples case the cost of doing business. Every day one of these corporate crooks is in the news. Never forget the old saying “think outside the box”
Oh Gordon. Such negative cynical victimhood. That must feel horrible!!!
I own a company and I am not a liar or a theif. Just a hard working small business man who cares deeply about his employees and his clients. They get paid when I don’t. And I hired 8 new people during the recession by investing in my company instead of “me”. So yea at times I make a lot more than them. Risk/reward ya know? Did you risk it all to have a shot at financial independence or did you stay conservative in your jobs and career (which is fine, just limiting usually in wealth building). We all reap what we sow. During my time in large companies and in my interactions with management teams at large companies, they are not liars and theives either. Such generalization about any group of people shows ones ignorance. Good luck out there in the future.
The COL index used to calculate SSA increases is about 1/2 what the actual increase averages out to be. To find the actual and projected increases, you have to use the government tables used to calculate costs in multi year contracts.
Dollar continues to weaken against the Euro?? Any comment or view. This seems to be polar opposite to Weiss Views !1
Every mountain has its top. Then you have to climb down.
Alternatively, when you climb to the top of a mountain, keep climbing.
We need to clean house on congress BOTH houses .
Amen! Brother.
AAAAAMEN!

Good idea but what is the alternative? and they know it. They rule through fear (vote for us well will keep you safe) and media like Fox News. They are both a pox on the country but again what do you do? I have so many expat friends here in Thailand enjoying the good life. If your old enough to retire kiss it all goodbye. Its like my family at home what I don’t know doesn’t hurt.
Fascinating. What do you do for fun in Thailand? Do they like Americans? Decent healthcare? I doubt my family would miss me much either. Jim
SP500 at precipitous literally just hours away from accomplishing something it has not done since 1939.
Looks like yesterdays “succors rally” fizzled out pdq. Tomorrow is a nothing day. 2016 will be interesting if nothing else….(<:
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

So, there has been little inflation in the past 8 years? How much grocery shopping has the author done? Seems no one remembers that Obama took food and energy (like gasoline and oil), out of the cost of living equation. Why? So, that when those inflation numbers come out, people won’t see the obvious! Smoke and mirrors instead of transparency! Some grocery items have gone up more than 100%, and double digit food inflation has been the norm for at least the last four years.
As a senior on SS, I can tell you that drug costs are now through the roof, thanks to Obamacare. And, we have additional premiums for our medicare insurance. We actually took a $50.00 a month cut in pay this year, not counting the higher out of pocket medical and drug expenses. Today’s seniors have to decide if they want to take their meds or eat. Sad, when you consider we are the first generation to pay into SS from the age of 16 until 65. It is the single largest ripoff of the American public in history, and until you are living with it, you can’t possibly understand the extent of your loss.
Does anyone remember that Obama also moved the census from into the White House? Has anyone figured out why? Apparently, no one cared enough when it happened to question the decision.
I suggest that Americans do the math. They can save more money with a guaranteed principal self managed investment program then they will ever see through social security. Whenever politicians are managing taxpayer money history proves that only the politicians and government employees benefit. ‘Nuff said!
A WALL STREE ACCOUNT ON THE DAY YOU RETIRE MAY BE LOSING MONEY FASTER THAN YOU CAN COUNT WHEN I RESCUED MY ACCOUNT IN ’08 IT DROPPED 5,000 FROM THE TIME OF MY PHONE CALL UNTILL THE CLOSING OF THE BOOKS IN THE AFTERNOON. MY SOCIAL SECURITY HOWEVER DID NOT DROP A PENNY . WALL STREE DOES NOT HAVE A RELIABLE PERFORMANCE . IN ’02 ONE INDIVIDUAL SAW HIS ACCOUNT DROP FROM 750,000 TO 45,000. AVERAGE GAIN IS 4% NOT 10 % WHEN LOSS PERIODS ARE COUNTED. IT HAD A 20 YEAR PERIOD OF NO GAIN IN THE PAST.
Pudgy’s Mom,
With all do respect you are wrong. Initially, I do shopping at the grocery store every week. Have prices gone up, yes they have, but some prices have gone down. My grocery bill each week has not moved that much–up or down. Maybe you are talking buying all upscale items. I have resisted that as perhaps you should. There are a lot of alternative foods you might buy and enjoy.
Obama did not take food and fuel out of the CPI. That was dfone de3cades before and the CPI is still calculated in both forms and available to the public on a monthly basis–one with food and energy and fuel. and one with all components in it. You will be surprised because obviously apparently you do not check either survey the CPI without fuel and food is almost the same as the other survey. Get some facts.
Your next statement is that drug costs are going through the roof. It has nothing to do with Obama. George W. Bush pushed through Part D of medicare which was a cave in to the pharmaceutical industry in the US. Many countries negotiate with the pharmaceutical companies and citizens pay a lower rate for medicines that we in the US do. The US does not because of what Mr. Bush decided to do with Part D. .We pay the highest rates for medicines in the world generally because of politics which you may support. Suggest that you go to Canada or Mexico and see what you would pay for the same medicines you buy in the US.
You seem to love SS and hate it. SS is not a retirement program which you seem to think. It is an assistance to anyone who has paid into the system, but that is all. If you and your spouse decided not to plan for retirement with other investments, that is unfortunate. I think I may be older than you are and I am still paying into SS. Ripoff–you are sadly mistaken.
Next what are you talking about Obama moving census into the White House is nonsensical. The Census Bureau has been apart of the Commerce Department almost forever and is today. Are you saying that Obama is running the Census Bureau directly from the White House? Absurd. It also has nothing to do with what you said earlier. How does the Census bureau affect you? Just explain.
Lastly, you say Americans must do the math. You seem to say that managing your own retirement funds which are given to SS is a better way to go., I suggest that you go to Morningstar, a company that monitors all the mutual funds managed by professional managers, and look at its evaluations of the effectiveness of professional managers. It is not pretty. But maybe you and your spouse, if any, think that you can beat the market. If you are worried about SS and groceries, I doubt you have the ability to achieve anything close to SS. But if you want that opportunity, reach for it, Just do not come back and complain to the rest of us.
LEO, you are exactly right. Tell it like it is, brother!
You don’t need to go to Canada or Mexico to save on meds. Just contact Canada Med Services in Sarasota, Fl..and they’ll save you a bundle.
You seem selective in what you complain about. Obama took food and energy out of the equation. Yes, food is probably more expensive. But energy is cheaper. Seems to me that it balances out.
If not for social security most seniors would probably living in the street. If they replaced social security with private investment accounts, stock brokers would be ecstatic but most Seniors would probably end up broke.Republicans have been pushing this for years, .
Guaranteed Principal ? Only thing I know of is a bank savings account. See how far that would get you.
High drug costs have nothing to do with Obama Care. In setting up part d drug plan Bush white house made it illegal for government to negotiate drug price. Blame high drug cost on greedy drug companies.
High drug costs are not result of Obama Care.
Pudgy’s Mom,
If we had honest politicians, [ I do believe that’s an oxymoron ] but the fact we use ethanol which would cost twice as much if it wasn’t so heavily subsidized to make it seem like we are doing something when we are sitting on enough energy right now never to pay those taxes that give the impression they are helping out the country. Here’s the deal. I actually went to a grocery store and looked at so many products and It was a task to find something that didn’t have high-fructose corn syrup in it. Because we use so much corn to make ethanol, then subsidize it with taxes to make it even remotely competitive with regular gas or even natural gas is helping one group of people. Corporate farmers like Monsanto. They make so much selling corn that we pay more for it at the pump and it has more water in it which is bad on your engine. Then food prices have either exploded or it’s the same price with a smaller amount in the can or box. We don’t have a infrastructure yet for natural gas, but it is already happening on trucks and interstates do have natural gas. What we do have on Natural gas is companies if you are in a part of the country like I am in this sad sorry state who gave you Obama. DAY 1 he should have approved the Keystone pipeline because even though we have plenty, the more in the pipeline the lower the price of anything goes. This horrendous bill that just added 1.1 trillion more dollars to my kids and grand kids debt is going to bring more [ 10,000 plus “Syrian Trojan Horse Refugee’s” ] on the shores that used to protect us from most of this stuff. No we pay their way and are told, “that’s not who we are. We are a nation of immigrants. Many of these are women and children.” Well we already had Major Hidal or Nidal opening fire on our soldiers while in a mess hall while yelling al-akbar yet our soldiers weren’t even allowed to carry a firearm on base. Then we have the Boston Bombers. Then we had San Bernardino where I had a friend out west as they were being shot and completely defenseless. Thirteen of those people who just lived their lives as regular people obeyed the law and are now dead. A few who voted for anti- conceal carry candidates are now getting firearms as I am along wit my five sons, my pastor and his two sons. So we have all these people making decisions that we are supposed to make at the ballot box. And we did make our choices and they buckled or Obama must have pictures of them in compromising positions because that Muslim Communist, [remember I’m from Chicago so I know all about Bill Ayars and his first meeting where we had a convicted felon telling the future president of the U.S. of A how to do it. Bill and Bernadine Dorhn say their only regret is they didn’t blow up more federal buildings. Then he became a professor at University of Illinois at Chicago campus for 30 years teaching Marxist doctrine’s and people all wonder what happened to America? They DO NOT TEACH CIVIC’S ANYMORE and we are an experiment in self government. If you don’t vote and get connected with a group like the Senate’s Conservative Fund where a good man left the senate because he couldn’t get anywhere so he created an organization to do the “leg work ” on what a candidate says and compares that to their voting record. We have college students who have no clue how long a congressmen’s term is let alone who they are. That is a problem because when we don’t vote it tells the establishment one of two things, or both. One, you are happy with them and the job they are doing. Or two, you don’t care enough to vote. I am pissed! I worked hard because I was told if we got if we got them elected they wouldn’t spend all this money we print out of thin air, or borrow what we can’t even pay the interest on. They did the right thing kicking Boehner out but I was screaming when they replaced him with a younger version. And Obama has passed so much stuff by executive order that could have been stopped. That’s why we have three co-equal branched of government. But the problem is we don’t have politicians like the founders who went to serve their country for a couple years and then went home to work the farm. WE have guys that promise the world if you give to their campaign and spend millions for a job that pays a couple hundred thousand a year. And even if you only serve a two year term, you have a pension for life, you vote yourself a pay raise, you are not a part of Obaminationcare, and even though we have a second amendment they want to take away, they all have armed body guards! We have to stop things like go to the FAIRTAX.COM because even though a flat tax is better than what we have, people who aren’t tax paying citizens get all the benefits we all have paid into. INCLUDING SOCIAL SECURITY. Back to that California thing. If we couldn’t properly vet the mom, dad, and daughter, and let the man she met online into the country to get married, [ so much for women won’t blow themselves up per Obama’s own words ] Fairtax is absolutely the best way. You eliminate all deductions. You get 100% of your MONEY. If you are rich because you worked hard, or inherited it, who cares? The more you spend the more you pay in taxes. If you cheat you won’t be able to now. If you are illegal, you still need food and clothes so people that aren’t even in the system contribute. You also catch tax cheats because, again, you pay at the point of sale. I own a flooring company and have the 5 knee surgeries to prove it, the failed double fusion in my neck, open heart for a leaking valve. I am going to be 52 in April. I am the very last year of the baby boomers. 1964. Whatever you believe about God or not, it is an undeniable fact that our system of laws are based on Judeo/Christian principle’s. How can we as the bumper sticker says, COEXIST with all the letters the symbol if that religion. Islam isn’t coming here for a better life. Ask the Chicago dad who ran his daughter down with the family car for becoming, “too Americanized.” That sound like someone who plans on “assimilating?” In WW-2 when 2400 approximately were killed Roosevelt interned Japanese and to a lessor extent Germans and Italians. Obama wants and is going to “resettle Syrians” here and to me that is like letting the fox in the hen house. I have been doing some homework on Islam. It is in fact unlike the bible, which is 66 books, written by numerous authors over thousands of years. The Q’uran is written by one man in one life time and it does start out as a peaceful religion but Mo-ham and Bacon said, whenever you come across a contradiction, go with the later teaching. [ Allah makes mistakes? ] They are in our prison system recruiting people and these were in Chicago anyway, where even though I was born there, I am 30 minutes away and a man walking distance from my house with my bad knees is easy. But a man tried to call his pops and just say hi. He didn’t answer. He tried again the next day. No answer. He tried the third and got no answer so he jumped int his car and drove out here and his father was already severely decomposing. I moved away to get away from that craziness and here it is in my neighborhood . Thank God he had a rap sheet and left finger prints behind and was caught. So again, how are we ever going to get out of debt and get functioning again? Fairtax, use real energy of ALL varieties, lower the highest corporate tax rate in the world and instead of exporting McDonald’s we will be importing manufacturing jobs. Raising the minimum wage would be the absolute wrong thing to do. I already know of a guy who has out in a kiosk to place your order which is better than raising your price, the order id right all of the time, there is a plant making then somewhere, there is an installer somewhere and a serviceman somewhere too. All will make well above $15 bucks an hour! I asked my sister about this who sold her mom and pop pizza place when she had to divorce from an abusive husband what she would have done. She said the teenagers would call in sick or just quit on a Friday or Saturday night because there was a party and it would kill her on the busiest nights of the week and would do it on a 90 degree day when those ovens made it feel like a 190! She said she would either have to work that hard to keep her prices where regular folks could make it or raise prices on long time customers where that was a major expense and like flooring as I am in, the people sitting on the bubble get screwed and have to go out with their traditional treat or a new floor because, get this, I don’t care if you walk on plywood which I actually did for years when my dad added on an addition which my stained the plywood [ a petrochemical ]and mom through a piece of carpet over the middle which wasn’t stained. I don’t know you but I rabbit trail all over the place because we will always be the best person to handle the money we earned or paid into to receive. Fairtax you keep all of the money you have coming and eliminates the IRS. I as a shop owner would be responsible for explaining to a smaller organization for why I haven’t paid taxes ion purchases I made but are not in inventory. It could be as simple as we sent it back because of a defect. It happens all the time. Lower the corporate tax rate because ours is the highest in the world. Use our own Natural Resources and for the first time in 40 years we can finally sell American energy to our allies which is huge because Russia had Europe a choke hold.Open up the Keystone pipeline and stop believing this nonsense called first global warming, them climate change, and when it was obvious a lie, they call it now climate JUSTICE! Countries like us who are drowning in energy will be forced to give it to poor countries. [ I guess because they could never get to our standard of living, they wanted to even the playing field. If we don’t have enough energy to run our factories, we can buy back OUR ENERGY which now adds a cost to a product when we already have a problem competing with countries who use next to slave labor and now with our higher wages, we will have higher fuel costs too now. So stop the UN from dictating to us what to do even with coal. The U.N. already mandated America has to cut down on carbon emissions. China has until 2030 to start on this so how can we compete? Fracking who my buddy now works in the industry that is so regulated because they drill trough aquifiers . This one really bothers me. My father in law was in the plumbing and sewer business. He has lit many faucets on fire that the earths platelets moved as and gas escaped. I have also seen people up in Alaska cut holes in a lakes ice and trow a match at the hole and walla! a flame shoots up,. All trapped and wasted gas.
The fracking industry has been doing this for 50 years. He said that the “chemicals” people use to scare us with are things from the food industry and we consume most everyday. It is all about the money again.Does it bother you that we are leaving a country for the first time in our history that is word off than the pone we were given? Just ask me a question because after a year off because if a severe failure in my neck surgery I was trying to find out why my country was artificially lowering prices to help large lobbyist’s keep the status quo. There is so many I can explain. I have business coaches as example a man named Jeff Hoffman who started Priceline.com, he also started Expedia with Bill Gates. Anytime any one flies anywhere n the world and use a kiosk, he gets paid because that is HIS INVENTION. But to fix the problem with a congress who has the power of the purse, go to conventionofstates.com because the founders even thought of that. But remember this and think what you want to. Wa were America’s most prosperous years? The Baby Boomer years and this is just the way it is. After WW-2, we took a couple years to get back to peace time production. But in 1948, against the Joint Chief’s of Staff’s recommendations, Harry Truman, helped Israel become a state again after being taken from their lands as slaves by the Egyptians. Harry had a partner in his business of fine men’s clothing before entering politic’s. He was a Jewish man so Harry helped Golda Meir become the first Prime Minister of Israel. from then all the way to 1963, we were the superpower of epic proportions. There was a time people wouldn’t buy a Japanese car because they were so bad. but in 1963 we legislated God out of schools. I saw a crime chart after that and there wasn’t a single category where did not explode in crime rates. So during the years when we helped Israel or BLESS them if you will, we were an economic powerhouse and because we always stood by Israel, we were always a blessed nation. We were blessed in every way. We started a fast decline in 1963 and no we can’t go back to that because we would have to accommodate all of these other religions. So think back to the mid to late 60’s. It was the “tune and tune out generation of hippies.” The 70’s we saw what I call throw away cars because 60 or 70,000 miles and they were so rusted out, they were junk. My friends father actually stated Ziebart and whenever you went to buy a car, they would try and up sell you with this kind of product . But now we have Barack Obama following to a “T” Saul Alinky’s”Rules fir Radicals.” A book on how to destroy a capitalist economy. I even saw a old newspaper ad during the FDR administration were they showed a real deviant looking person writing down how to destroy a capitalist economy when it has lifted more people out of poverty than any other. So it said first to make them dependent on the government with healthcare, retirement savings, and to spend us into oblivion. All have happened. It also says to disarm the populace so they cannot resist. Most of all I know what God’s word has to say about it. “Those who bless Israel will be blessed. Those who curse Israel will be cursed.” I’ll be darned if that is not what is happening.
.God Bless and have a Happy New Year!
Mark: The Monsanto people are not corporate farmers. They farm the farmers and indirectly everybody else too.
I appear to have a very different view about retirement than most of you. I have no intention of ever retiring. I’ll be on the business end of a shovel until I’m 90, Lord wiling. I see retirement as an invention of Corporate America to give them an excuse to replace high paid employees with lower paid employees. My Father and my Father’s Father did not retire. They worked till the day they died and so will I. I love what I do. If I quit I know I would die sooner rather than later. As my health fails I will do less but I will still be doing it. I have had such a wonderful life I could check out tomorrow and it would be just fine. There are worse things than death. I just watched my 89 year old Mother waste away in the nursing home. No thank you. Jim
If the only thing that makes life worthwhile for you is pushing that shovel then go to it.
Some of us retire, put down that shovel, and find other interests.
Each to his own. I wasn’t trying to be critical of those that do retire. It just isn’t for me. Jim
I’m also self employed. If I worked a 9 to 5 I would probably agree with you. Jim
My hats off to ya Jim. You’re part of a rare breed that is going the way of “The Mountain Man”. I aint never been to successful, but by The Grace of God I aint never missed a meal yet. And if He is willing i’ll still be butting my head against that wall on the day I die. One time I put on a job application; “I’m a forty dollar a day cowboy and a purty good windmill fixer, but I don’t know a dam thing about motorcycles.” I didn’t get the job and I’m sho glad of it.! (<:
Have a Blessed New Year!
Mule
