The Dow Jones industrial average reached an all-time high on Tuesday, a sign that investors finally have shaken off the nightmarish memories of the crash of 2009.
“You’re starting to see people come out of their bunkers,†said Mike Larson, an analyst at Weiss Research in Jupiter. “You’re seeing more of a risk-taking environment.â€
The Dow rose 126.18 points, or 0.9 percent, to close at 14,254. That topped the previous closing high of 14,164.53, a mark set Oct. 11, 2007. The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index added 1 percent to close at 1,539.80, a bit below its record.
Shares of several Palm Beach County companies set new records Tuesday. Florida Power & Light parent NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) closed at $73.88, its richest price ever. Prison operator GEO Group (NYSE: GEO) and communications tower owner SBA Communications (Nasdaq: SBAC), both of Boca Raton, also hit new highs.
