Money and Markets: Investing Insights

Happy 1,000th Birthday, Money and Markets …

Martin D. Weiss, Ph.D. | Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 7:30 am

MaM Team Cake

Sean is on vacation this week.

So we are taking this opportunity to celebrate a landmark event for us: The publication of our 1,000th edition of Money and Markets.

And to mark the occasion, I’d like to tell you how it all got started and where we are right now.

I started my company, Weiss Research, thirty-seven years ago, while I was working toward my Ph.D. at Columbia University.

Elisabeth and I lived in the graduate student dorm three blocks from campus. But all we had was a small, one-room studio apartment. So we built a bookcase to separate the room in two halves — one for the Weiss Research “office” and one for everything else. Fortunately, we were the only two employees of the company. Otherwise, I think someone would have had to set up their work station in the bathroom.

The Question Is: WHAT Are “They” Trading Most?
(And It’s Not Shares or Commodities!)

Today, the Weiss Group has 162 employees in three separate buildings and four subsidiaries — Weiss Research, Inc.; Weiss Capital Management, Inc. (a separate money management firm); Weiss Capital Securities, Inc. (a full-service discount broker); plus The Weiss School, an elementary and middle school for gifted children.

Meanwhile, our Money and Markets has emerged as one of the largest publications of its kind in the world.

Meanwhile, our Money and Markets has emerged as one of the largest publications of its kind in the world.

We started it just three years ago, when my team and I came to the critical conclusion that the only way to help you control risks and maximize gains in the new, fast-moving global markets was to talk with you each and every day.

And the growth in our e-letter has been meteoric: From just a few thousand readers at the outset to nearly 340,000 today … with a continually wider range of viewpoints … an expanding group of experts … and an ever-expanding website. For example, go to www.moneyandmarkets.com to …
