Sean is on vacation this week.
So we are taking this opportunity to celebrate a landmark event for us: The publication of our 1,000th edition of Money and Markets.
And to mark the occasion, I’d like to tell you how it all got started and where we are right now.
I started my company, Weiss Research, thirty-seven years ago, while I was working toward my Ph.D. at Columbia University.
Elisabeth and I lived in the graduate student dorm three blocks from campus. But all we had was a small, one-room studio apartment. So we built a bookcase to separate the room in two halves — one for the Weiss Research “office” and one for everything else. Fortunately, we were the only two employees of the company. Otherwise, I think someone would have had to set up their work station in the bathroom.

(a separate money management firm); Weiss Capital Securities, Inc. (a full-service discount broker); plus The Weiss School, an elementary and middle school for gifted children.
Meanwhile, our Money and Markets has emerged as one of the largest publications of its kind in the world.
