Fed Chair Janet Yellen will testify to the Senate Banking Committee for the first time this week after her original hearing date was canceled because of snow.
Investors may get a firmer picture of the U.S. economy when the Bureau of Economic Analysis reports its second gross domestic product estimate for the past quarter. The bureau said last month that its first estimate was fourth-quarter growth of 3.2 percent. Friday’s report will include more complete data than last month’s advance estimate.
Also helping with that picture may be the earnings reports coming in this week from a slew of companies in the consumer discretionary category, from Best Buy and Macy’s to Hertz, Hilton and Tumi.
