Rumblings of Nuclear War
While all of America is nervously counting down the last days to a hotly contested — and possibly disputed — election …
All of Russia is resolutely building up its forces — and defenses — in anticipation of a future war.
The Kremlin has recently revamped Soviet-era civil-defense plans. It has upgraded bomb shelters in major cities. And it has just orchestrated emergency drills for 40 million civilians and military personnel to prepare for nuclear or chemical attacks. All under the umbrella of extreme and intense anti-American rhetoric!
On the offensive side, Russia is sharply upgrading its firepower in the Baltic Sea and adding warships armed with long-range cruise missiles. In the event of a conflict, they could defeat NATO forces in the Baltic countries within 60 hours or less, warns the RAND corporation.
Right now, this story is getting buried in the U.S. press by some of the most bombastic election headlines in history. But nearly three weeks ago, Larry Edelson alerted you to new warnings of war between U.S. and Russia. Two weeks ago, I told you about Russia’s march to war in detail. And in the weeks after the election, the danger of war is bound to burst into the headlines with gale force.
When it does, the most important question, in my view, won’t be about the plans of America’s next president. Nor will it be about the next move by Vladimir Putin. Rather, it will most likely pivot around one widely ignored issue:
Tactical Nuclear Weapons
Tactical (or non-strategic) nuclear weapons are supposedly smaller and less destructive than the strategic nuclear weapons that defined the 20th Century Cold War.
A good thing? Not really. Here are five reasons why they’re so dangerous:
Reason #1. They’re still massive.
Some of the supposedly “lower yield” tactical warheads pack more power than the “Fat Man” atomic bomb that leveled Nagasaki or the “Little Boy” that destroyed Hiroshima.
Reason #2. Tactical nuclear weapons weaken the deterrent power that has so far helped prevent nuclear war.
As long as leaders and military strategists on both sides equated nuclear war with assured mutual destruction, it was very rare for them to seriously consider pressing the buttons.
Indeed, during the 20th Century Cold War, every time the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. approached a direct confrontation, one side or the other always backed down.
Take a quick walk through time and you’ll see exactly what I mean …
- Budapest, 1956. Soviet tanks invade Hungary to put down an anti-Soviet rebellion. At least 2,500 Hungarians and 700 Russian troops are killed. Rebel forces plead desperately for U.S. assistance. But fearing a mutually destructive nuclear war, President Eisenhower refuses to get directly involved.
- Berlin, 1961. Nearly one-out-of-five East Germans has fled to the West, creating a massive brain drain of young education professionals. Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev issues an ultimatum, demanding the withdrawal of Allied forces from West Berlin. The Allies call their bluff, and the Soviets back down: Instead of starting a conflict, they build a wall between East and West Berlin.
- Cuba, 1962. Ostensibly in response to U.S. nuclear bases in Turkey, the Soviet Union installs nuclear missiles in Cuba. They’re within easy striking distance of major U.S. metropolitan areas. The U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff unanimously recommends that President Kennedy authorize a full-force invasion of Cuba to overthrow the Castro regime. But Kennedy balks. He believes that, if the U.S. moves on Cuba, Khrushchev will retaliate in Berlin, triggering an all-out nuclear war. So instead, Kennedy decides to mount a U.S. naval blockade, preventing any Soviet missiles from reaching Cuba. And this time, it’s the Soviet’s turn to back down, removing all rockets from Cuba.
- In every case, both sides fear a conflict that could easily escalate into guaranteed mutual annihilation. And it’s this fear that becomes the driving force for détente — first in the form of the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT I, SALT II) and then the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaties (START I, New START).
Today, however, with regard to tactical nuclear weapons, their posture is very different: Military strategists in the U.S. and Russia seem to be operating on the theory that these lower-yield weapons can be used without fear of total mutual destruction.
32 Central Banks Scrambling to Prepare for December Announcement A new global law in effect this December could deliver an unexpected shock to the markets. No less than 32 major central banks are scrambling to prepare for the inevitable fallout. They’re shifting their money into one single asset that could explode in value, even as everything else plummets. $3 TRILLION is set to change hands virtually overnight. You must prepare now – there’s no time left to wait. |

Whether this theory is correct or not is something I’ll review in a moment. For now, let me move on to …
Reason #3. Tactical nuclear weapons were never included in any strategic nuclear arms treaties.
This is shocking in its own right. But it should come as no surprise. As the names of the treaties clearly state, they deal exclusively with strategic arms. Plus, more recently …
- In the administration of George W. Bush, no one ever addressed tactical weapons in The Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty.
- And in 2009, when Presidents Obama and Medvedev outlined arms-control discussions, talks on tactical weapons went nowhere.
Why have they fallen through the cracks of arms control? One answer lies in …
Reason #4. One side or the other always seemed to think it had “more leverage.”
As the Soviet empire collapsed, the West felt it had the upper hand. The prevailing theory was that any transparency or arms control might undermine U.S. flexibility and limit NATO options for deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in Europe.
But now, there’s an even bigger roadblock: The Russian side has a far larger arsenal of tactical weapons. What’s worse, unlike NATO’s, it seems that the bulk of the Russian arsenal is deployed — in other words, stored adjacent to delivery vehicles.
So Russian negotiators have consistently applied that leverage by insisting that NATO first remove its tactical weapons from Europe. Even if they return to the bargaining table (not likely in today’s climate), a treaty that limits tactical nuclear weapons is unlikely.
Reason #5. Escalation!
Proponents of tactical weapons argue that they can be deployed within the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC), citing two of the law’s basic principles:
- First, the principle of “military necessity” — using only the degree and kind of force that’s required to overcome the enemy, while supposedly minimizing loss of life and treasure; and …
- Second, the principle of “lawful targeting” — taking all reasonable precautions to ensure that only (or “mostly”) military objectives are targeted, limiting collateral damage “as much as possible.”
They then insist that tactical nuclear weapons can conform to these two principles.
True? Certainly not if they pack tonnage equivalent to the bombs that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Moreover …
In the heat of battle, there is no law that can prevent escalation. And there’s no agreed-upon dividing line between “tactical” and “strategic” nuclear weapons.
“60 Minutes” Weighs In
Last month, long after we first began warning of these dangers here in Money and Markets, CBS News’ “60 Minutes” weighed in with a blockbuster segment, “The New Cold War.”
Click here to watch their 13-minute video, which includes a transcript.
Or read on for the highlights …
“President Obama’s nuclear strategy states that, ‘while the threat of all-out nuclear war is remote, the risk of a nuclear attack somewhere in the world has actually increased.’
“When that was written three years ago, the risk came from a rogue nation like North Korea. Back then, the U.S. and Russia were said to be ‘partners.’
“But that was before Russia invaded Crimea, using military force to change the borders of Europe, and before Vladimir Putin and his generals began talking about nuclear weapons.
“For generations, nuclear weapons have been seen as a last resort to be used only in extreme circumstances. But in this new Cold War, the use of a nuclear weapon is not as unlikely to occur as you might think …
“To them [the Russians], the use of nuclear weapons is not unthinkable. It says so in their military doctrine, signed by Putin in 2014: Russia ‘shall reserve the right to use nuclear weapons … in the event of aggression …
“Putin has personally directed nuclear exercises which have increased in both size and frequency. …
“And the U.S. has responded with more aggressive exercises of its own: One year after Crimea, four B-52s flew up over the North Pole and North Sea on an exercise called Polar Growl. …
“Each bomber can carry 20 cruise missiles, or a total of 80 that could have been launched against targets inside Russia.”
This entire discussion was about “low-yield” or tactical nuclear weapons. But the “60 Minutes” segment continues:
“Russia is also developing low-yield weapons, which a declassified CIA document says could ‘lower the threshold for first use of nuclear weapons.’
Admiral Cecil Haney is Head of the U.S. Strategic Command, the man who would carry out a presidential order to launch a nuclear weapon. His concluding comment in the “60 Minutes” report:
“It concerns me that Russia has a lot of nuclear weapons. It concerns me that Russia has behaved badly on the international stage. And it concerns me that we have leadership in Russia, at various levels, that would flagrantly talk about the use of a nuclear weapon in this 21st century.”
What do we do?
Long before my mind can focus on money, my heart skips several beats for the children and grandchildren in our lives.
Our generation has a very good chance of avoiding Armageddon. But what about theirs?
And exactly what are the statistical probabilities of a “very good chance”? No one can possibly put numbers on any of this.
However, I do know a few things with confidence:
- A nuclear conflict between the United States and Russia is not going to happen out of the blue. A lot still has to happen before we reach that point — recalling of ambassadors, a rupture in diplomatic relations, an escalation of proxy wars (like Georgia, Ukraine and Syria), conventional conflicts between the two nations and more.
- Long before we reach that point, you should have a place to go to that’s as far away as possible from present and future dangers — where terrorist attacks are almost nonexistent, where military targets are inconsequential and … in a place where the winds of nuclear fallout are unlikely to reach. Today’s not the day to tell you more about these places. But I promise to do so soon.
- Needless to say, rumblings of nuclear war can kill confidence in financial markets. In fact, as soon as the election is behind us, it could emerge as one of the biggest factors deflating stocks and bonds, while lifting commodities. (See especially Larry’s latest report “When gold will explode higher.”)
- Regardless of who moves into the White House come January 20, the defense sector is on the verge of massive growth. (Stay tuned for details.)
- Whatever happens on election day, NO ONE should miss Larry’s upcoming webinar on how the election will affect your finances. (You can sign up here.)
In the meantime, I trust you’re doing everything you can to keep your money – and your family – safe.
Good luck and God bless!
Martin

Does Martin think the EU Crisis could lead to the dollarization of many countries currencies in the EU?
The United States better pull their head out of their butt before its to late
Indeed. The usa thirst for neverending interventionism will eventually backfire…the need to create enemies instead of exercising the non aggression principle is a losing game
The Americans know exactly what they are doing? Their forays into Libya and Syria look like a mistake to us but Obama and Hillary knew what the result would be (same as Bush in Iraq). They are creating instability on purpose. These leaders are not interested in America’s interest. Otherwise why would Hillary essentially remove America’s borders?
Nuclear war? Yes, not unlikely! Take a good look at the Republican Party and what it stands for and you have your answer! Fear mongering, hysteria, constant lying and obstructing, the NRA, our police state, war mongering, you name it. On top of that Trump! Not only have we lost all credibility and respect, we probably will start a nuclear war. What with a totally insane idiot like Trump at the wheel of our vessel called The United States of America!
You don’t seem to want to recognize the reality of the radical terrorist threat to Western civilization or a nuclear Iran. I assume warnings of that and a nuclear Iran are what you refer to as fear mongering. On another note, you’re right, we have lost all credibility and respect thanks to the democrat party and the Obama administration. When the world sees your president as a congenital liar or has been shaken down by a former State dept head, you bet we have no credibility or respect. When you talk about the constant lying and obstructing, again you describe the Obama administration exactly; Lies: if you like your Dr you can keep your Dr, same for your insurance plan and the $2500 savings; Obama saying numerous times…’I just found out about this (name your scandal) thru the press when you did’. The list of his lies can go on and on. Obstruction: just look at the VA hospital scandal, the IRS targeting scandal, and this list could go on and on. Atty Gen Holder was even in contempt of Congress! Pardon me, but your source of facts is non-existent or the interpretation of information is incredibly naïve.
Umm.. I think you have it backwards. Hillary is the one who is blaming Russia for anything and everything, in most cases unjustifyably so. If anyone will be pushing the button it will be her. Trump has repeatadly said that he would like to have a better working relationship with Putin. Which is the way it should be. Not setting up for WWIII like Hillary is doing to detract our attention from the coming financial collapse…
“… better working relationship with Putin”
Right, with Putin working Trump.
Maria, I am more worried about Hillary…. Look at it from Russian side. Under her watch the US installed lots of firepower under their nose. If they are threatened too much they will act. What would the US do, if someone installs lots of armaments at the entire US- Mexican border? US and EU engineered a take over of a democratic chosen president in Ukraine. They support rebels in Syria causing chaos (supposedly to get something wrong put right). How would you react if someone starts arming black lives matter to right another wrong?
Couldn’t be more true! Trying to decide as grandparents do we buy another home without stars and at such high prices in california bay area or do we buy our grand children a graduating gift from college @ years early and stay where we are thinking all of our futures and grand Childress futures won’t be here for long because of nuclear war and our beautiful world as we know it will no longer exist?
Our political leaders haven’t had credibility for at least two administrations so this should not be an “aha” moment for you.
Maria Craig, you need to wake up and see the truth. Russia has sent threats that say if Hillary wins it will be war, not if Trump wins. Read Mr. Weiss’s Russian visit. We have seen Hillary’s accomplishments and abilities in defending our people in Benghazi. We have seen her money handling as SOS where she misplaced $6 billion. We have seen her ability to keep our national secrets, secret with the current email scandals. We see her corruption and commitment to in the Clinton Foundation with acceptance of millions. The only thing going for Hillary is complete failure and lining her pocket with trillions of missing dollars if elected and war with Russia.
Ken, You really must take the Trump filters off. The “missing $6 billion” is a complete myth that has been debunked as just another fantastical lie. Add to this that nobody ought to be voting based on the recommendation of a totalitarian, fascist criminal like Putin.
It is a common public perception that public bravado makes a strong leader (Trump supporters), when in fact patience, dialogue and consistency of message is what really wins and has won throughout history.
Benghazi, like the $6 billion is simply another fantastical tale of GOP rabbit hole chases as have been the emails inquiries. None of the GOP led inquisitions have led to to anything substantive, yet the bs lives on. It has been given a life of it’s own. Why live with the truth when you can manufacture lies?
Benghazi is a lie? Where are Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, and the two volunteers who died saving so many of the others at the outpost while the drone broadcast the drama to the Situation Room in the White House? Dreamer, wake up!
I agree with you Ken – I would add that if Hillary wins she will probably emerge from office with more money that Bill Gates and Warren Buffet combined. Past behavior is an indicator of future behavior.
With any respect due, ma’am you are part of what is wrong and dividing this country. And your hysterics and mis-information does nothing to solve the problems.
Ah, there’s always one. All just sunshine and lollipops with HRC who wants a no-fly zone in Syria and considers a military response to cyber warfare entirely appropriate.
Maybe you should go back in time to see which party had the president seat , starting with ww1. Ww2. Korean War , Vietnam etc
Maria are you for real? The only insane idiot out there is Hillary Clinton who with Obama are going in to take over Mosul and then wants to move into Syria. The Russians have moved an aircraft carrier flotilla to the Mediterranean in anticipation of Clinton being elected since they back Assad. The Democrats took the sanctions off Iran and gave them what a trillion dollars to build up their military to side with Russia. They sold our uranium to Russia. Whose side is the democrats on anyway we must vote these traitors out of office now. The Republican Party and Trump are our only hope against the fear mongering, hysteria, constant lying by Clinton and Democrats (with Obamacare) and obstruction of Justice with Hillary questioning our top law enforcement the FBI. When someone thinks she is above the law what kind of country do we have? Actually not much since Obama and Clinton divided us by the races, by religion and by status where they only recognize the elite. This country is gone and if a corrupt unprosecuted crook like Hillary Clinton wins we are done forever. Carolyn West
Carolyn- well said and all true.
Carolyn, More fantasy masquerading as fact. The deal with Iran was in fact a net inflow of cash to America, not to Iran.
Also you are out by a factor of about 2,000 times regarding the amounts. In the first place, the money belonged to Iran. It was sovereign money, meaning owned by the nation.
The US had money wrapped up in Iran as well. The transfer of cash from the US to Iran. The amount netted by US interests was about $700 million more that was returned to Iran.
Take the time to understand what actually happened before seizing on the fact that Iran got their own money back. Where did the “trillion” come from?
Putin has place a very tired bucket of bolts, the “Admiral Kuznetsov”, in the Med. This is not in fact a strategic carrier. It is a fossil fuel ship, not a nuclear powered ship. It supports minimal numbers of aircraft and at that only with reduced fuel and weapons loads, resulting in low mission effectiveness at anything but very short ranges. I add that it is Russia’s only carrier. It is of no significant military threat to anyone but the Syrian civilians that Putin is bombing and those that serve on it.
@MARIA CRAIG: “What with a totally insane idiot like Trump at the wheel…”
Even though Trump has said that, as president-elect, he would speak with Putin directly to de-escalate tensions? Even though it’s Hillary who wants to impose a no-fly zone over Syria, making a confrontation with Russia inevitable?
At a news conference this past August, Putin told international reporters that American missiles in Romania were aimed at Russia, and that his war footing was a response to that. This whole situation has worsened under Obama — whose policies Hillary Clinton will continue. It’s no good to go boiling over with anti-Republican stereotypes at this point. Fear-maddened insults contribute nothing. (What’s the NRA got to do with international politics anyway?)
The point is, Trump says he’ll try to calm the situation down. Hillary? With her anti-Putin rhetoric? Not so likely.
Maria, you are like most Democrats. You blame the Republicans for eveythjng that has gone wrong in this fine Country. speaking of lieing, Hillary, takes the prize . I would not trust her being in the White House again as she is a Cheater, a Liar, and I would like to know why the Clinton’s amassed all their millions by taking money for their talks, speeches, and taking money from Governments around the world who hate us and you condone her as a First Lady. No way would I vote for Hillary,
your Candidate. Hillary lClinton as well as her husband,.Bill, both belong in JAIL, not in the White House, they are both scumbags and whatv Hillary has done as a U.S.Senator and Secretary of State have been a shock to thpeople in this United States
I’ll
It’s not the NRA or the republicans, it’s the current ass in the wh.
Maria, it is Obama, Hillary and the democrats that have completely destabilized the middle east and Obama has been building a missile defense system on the borders of Russia.
Putin has stated numerous times that he knows those weapons can be fitted with nuclear warheads at any time 5-10 minutes from Moscow.
We have military bases all over the world along the Russian borders Korea, Japan all of Europe and Nuclear in Turkey. Russia on the other hand has one military base outside of Russian borders and that is in Syria a place where Hillary says she wants to put a no fly zone in which would be a direct attack on Russia who is trying to defeat ISIS a group created by Obama & Hillary & the democrats.
Trump on the other hand is stating he would like to assist Russia in defeating ISIS
Great remarks, Maria. You are right on target.
Trump has had nothing to do with this country “losing respect and credibility”.. this belongs to Obama Clinton Bush dumicrats repugnitards all together..who are you going to vote for??? The person who did much to get us in this situation?? Or for the change we really need
I think Hillary would use a nuclear weapon long before Trump would.
The first woman president is not going to be seen as a weakling, like Obama was.
Dont forget the line in the sand in Syria and dismantling our military to its smallest size since WW2, social experiments in the military, cuts to defense spending.
All this while China and Russia expand their manpower, military hardware, build islands, hidden underground submarine bases, weapons that disable our ships, jets as modern as ours as they steal plans from us.
We have open borders, muslims are constantly caught at the southern border and our northern border is practically wide open.
If Hillary is anything like Obama we are doomed.
Maria..you say we have lost all credibility with Trump ??? Sorry but Hillary should be in Jail !!! Now that’s an embarrasment !!
Trump gets in – befriends Putin- Putin gets busy staying ahead of everyone- then he will outsmart Trump at the end; the other guy won’t backdown– he never had
We all get annihilated!!
We have come to the point in this Election where we should vote for a 3rd party to put it nicely. Not interested inseeing Trump or Hillary as president
Ive got a bad taste in my mouth, when our so called leaders start talking about WAR,my view is send in the leaders first, cos these a==holes no nothing of how our troops suffer in pain, money ways(look at USA,they want the soldiers bonuses back, unreal)they come back injured and classed as 2nd class citizens, what for? Naw these idiots are too stupid to see it.
Globalization, maybe a means to justify continued massive military spending. Last I heard the Pentagon received over 600 Billion dollars over half of the US budget. One of the last big and I mean really big industries here in the US. Take military and medical spending out of the picture and the associated contractors and insurance companies, what would the economy here in the United States actually look like? You got it: nothing. A country of bureaucrats and paper movers, all large manufacturing and development now being done in China.
AND WHO SIGNED NAFTA the north american free trade agreement and GATT the general agreement on tariffs and trade why it was no other than BILL CLINTON BILL CLINTON made this statement after he signed it it will create 300,000 high paying jobs just in the first month except he forgot to mention the united states lost over 300,000 jobs just in the first month and mexico gained them since then the united states has lost over 1/3 of all the manufacturing jobs that were here prior to the signing of NAFTA and GATT
I think the Russian build-up is in preparation for the nukes that Iran will have (or maybe already has), since they’ll no doubt be arming radical groups to do their bidding. Russia already has problem was radicals so why wouldn’t radicals with nukes come after them?. They know radicals are nuts and have nothing to lose, it’s been demonstrated. Russia knows the USA is calculated and doesn’t want to get into a nuclear war anymore now the we did before just like they don’t. Russia can hide their build-up by blaming the easy boogey-man…the USA. And, a side effect is that Russia blaming the U.S. will keep us in check. We already have a wussy for a President and a depleted military so the bluster and the build-up have 2 effects.
I am curious to know which CANDIDATES have PREPPED for such contingencies
ANYONE may have little or no WARNING to TO ESCAPE TO A ”SAFE” HAVEN,
I love how democrats project their failures on a possible future president. Under Obama and Hilary we have seen relationships with Russia and China degrade dramatically. The national debt double, health insurance costs sky rocket. I blame the republicans too. Our political leaders on both sides have become more interested in staying in office and rewarding their donors then doing what is best for the American people as a whole.
Trump is the only answer! He will surround himself with the best to make the right decision while the Clinton’s will surround herself with the Pay to Play to line thier own pockets! Clinton’s are traitors since they supplied the 20% of Uranium to Russia from Utah, Wyoming and Colorado for millions of dollars for Bill Clinton speeches!
I wish that uranium deal would have made some news coverage, seems anything Hillary did that was negative was rarely or never mentioned.
I don’t trust Huma Abedin, her families ties
with terrorism and all the power she has now and may have in a few months is worrisome.
Does Scripture suggest a nuclear war and if so, when?
Ronald, the scriptures don’t predict a nuclear war, what they do say though is that; Mathew 24 among others goes, “Kingdom will rise against Kingdom” “for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short”.
I am not sure what type of weaponry other than nuclear could potentially wipe out the entire human existence if it’s course would not be altered.
There are many other things taking place politically that seem to moving closer to other scriptures that can be used as markers in the stream of time related to events that take place before an all out catastrophic conflict takes place.
I know people will say that these things have all happened before except these markers can only occur all together (when they do) only once.
blaming the republicans–the history of wars in which American’s fought were all under Democratic Administrations; save the Revolution–
AND WHO DO YOU THINK gave the u.s slavery yes democrats ANDREW JACKSON who do u think started the kkk yes democrats again who signed the emancipation proclamation freeing all slaves it was a republican ABRAHAM LINCOLN think im lying do some reading and youll find out its true
The WWII bombs had yields measured in kilo-tons. The tactical weapons yield is in the 10’s of tons. “Reason # 1” above is off by a factor of 1000. Still a big bang though.
The last time there was such a build up of forces near the Russian border, they suffered the consequences of Operation Barbarossa. That catastrophe will not be forgotten for many generations. The geniuses in Washington are clueless to the history of a region before going to war which is demonstrated by their numerous failures (except for the defense industry’s profits). Maybe they have confidence in their technological and numerical superiority to survive a first strike. The Europeans who are cooperating in this won’t be so lucky.
Unfortunately the possibility of nuclear war is real but to think that it would proceed like the wars of the 20th century is foolish. War in the 21st century will start with attacks not diplomatic niceties. Pearl Harbour will look like a skirmish compared to the opening shots of a war between Nuclear Powers, whether Russia and USA, or India and Pakistan, or half a dozen others.
Hillary’s policies have actually destabilized the whole middle east. Lets not forget about the tens of thousands of people who’ve been killed because of those policies. We all need to forget about the politics and take time to really examine who benefits from war. I could care less about Trump or Clinton. They’re all pawns of the REAL government and the Fed. If you think Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump will make a great difference….well you’ve bought into the idiocy designed to distract the idiots and sheeple. MONEY, POWER, and CONTROL. My friends follow those three things and you will be illuminated. But hurry…time is very very very short.!!
Hi Martin
I can see countries wanting to defend themselves yes, but nuclear war? Seriously, how will this help our short term financial decisions and positions. No one wants a nuclear war Martin. We are currently facing a choice between a political novice who the left don’t like verses another contender who many don’t trust or want. Then some in the finance markets are holding tight, waiting for a quarter point rise in the fed’s coming meeting on interest rates. Meanwhile many of us are holding our breath wondering which side of a trade to be on, if all hell breaks loose.
The yield for the tac nuke you describe is 0.72 kt. Fatman gave off ~ 18-21 Kt. Quite a big difference.
Dear Maria,
Yes, you are, of course, correct. Clearly, Lyin’ Hillary, devoid of security clearances, could lead our country much better while directing operations from a prison cell.
Do we have any tactical nukes anymore? You never here of them. What happened to the Army ‘s short range missiles,or were they retired..We have to move away from aircraft carriers
Does it matter who starts it.
I remember a Gahan Wilson cartoon that showed a a soldier standing in the rubble of a city raising his empty gun saying, “I guess we won”.
The fools in power and the greater fools who put them in think nuclear war is survivable and limited forget about the cornered rat.
Interesting description of the Rep Pty, Maria, as it’s also a perfect description of the Obama-Clinton administrations. Warmongers? Yes, the bushes can take credit for starting the regime change doctrine in our days, but Clinton pulled a whopper in Serbia, the Sudan, the Congo, and the list goes on. Obama and Hillary have brought regime change to the point where it threatens expansion into a global conflict. On top of that, their precious general Miley, after illegally bombing a coalition of Syrian, Russian and Iranian troops, in Syria, (who were acting under the duly appointed government to stand against American-grown terror in the form of ISIS), stands up and declares we will hurt Russia worse than they’ve ever been before [i.e. Napoleon and Hitler’s invasions]. Then he adds there WILL be a WAR and it WILL BE WORSE than World War I or World War II – with worse casualties – and you call Republicans warmongers?
And you say they are ALL liars? What about Hillary’s continuous lies about her involvement in Whitewater, Bill’s rape coverups, the Benghazi emails, and her “pay to play” racketeering scheme in the State Department? Have you watched her many testimonies before the U.S. Congress, where she commits perjury again and again and again? Even with a mountain of evidence proving perjury, collusion, conspiracy, interference with state and federal investigations, racketeering, and possibly even murder, she gets away with it. Yet, somehow she is both the media and the Democrats darling girl – protector of women’s rights and Savior of the children! And you’re pointing fingers at Repubs? Wake up. The banking and military-industrial complex has its claws so far up both parties’ derrières they reek to high heaven. That’s why many conservatives and progressives alike Support Trump. He’s calling a spade a spade, and whether or not he is genuine, he is seen as the only viable protest vote – and therefore the only hope for ending this rampant corruption.
Martin,
Just a correction in numbers. Your concern is well founded. The yield of Little Boy was approximately 12 Kilo tons; Fat Man 20 Kilo tons. The yield of the W48 weapon is considerably smaller (72 Tons, not 72 Kilo tons). However there are other tactical weapons that have yields that are much larger than Little Boy and Fat Man. I am 76 and have lived through the cold war era. God help us if we start using these monsters.
Regards,
Cliffb
Its takes 2 to 3 hours to charge an ipod nano and it was only made in 2007 hardly 50 years ago. Seriously I thought we were supposed to be living in an age of great technological progress.
Well, firstly Russia is not Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq or Syria where USA can do what it wishes.
Secondly, it was USA who destabilized Ukraine.
Thirdly, it is USA not Russia “installing” the New world Order by most perverse ways.
So it’s time God does to USA and her alias what He foretold.
Has anybody noticed an increase in the number of Russian trolls on this forum?
Jill Stein, the only anti-war candidate, gets ignored or insulted by the war loving media.
The two leading candidates are both scary.
A vote for Jill is a vote for peace.
Actually, it probably doesn’t matter that much who is elected. The forces pushing war are largely economic. Russia and the rest of the world are facing a massive economic slowdown. The best way to distract from domestic problems is war. That way tension and animosity are directed outward against a foriegn enemy instead of against the government. If you’re “lucky” you win the war and you gain territory and resources. With a weak Europe and an over-committed USA, Russia is feeling “lucky.”
And, just as a side note, Putin and Clinton loath each other. He and Trump actually like each other. So, I would say a Clinton election is probably more likely to end in a nuclear war.
Dear Martin, a safe place???? Read Nevil Shute’s epic ON THE BEACH… there were NO safe places to go!!! Better to go with the first big ones and start over again in paradise!
>> you should have a place to go to that’s as far away as possible from present and future dangers — where terrorist attacks are almost nonexistent, where military targets are inconsequential and … in a place where the winds of nuclear fallout are unlikely to reach <<
Very irresponsible to make a statement like that. If you know the science, you know there is no such place. After a nuclear war between the U.S. and Russia, anyone who escapes the blasts and radiation will still die from the nuclear winter that follows. The only real protection from a nuclear war is to make sure it doesn't happen in the first place.
“Nuclear winter” might not be the outcome here. Carl Sagan, who floated the idea in the 1980s, retracted it after Saddam torched Kuwait’s oilfields in Iraq’s 1991 retreat. Though that was a spiteful exercise in mass pollution, it didn’t have the broad climate-cooling effects Sagan feared would follow. In fact nothing has since Krakatoa.
Even in a low-yield exchange, though, radioactive particles would be at least a regional problem, and treating survivors would be a grim and oft-futile exercise. It’s best, I agree, to have no such exchange at all.
Hillary has pushed repeatedly for a no-fly zone over Syria. That is a sure path to war with Russia. If you vote for Hillary, you are voting for nuclear war.
More gloom and doom from Martin,Larson and the whole crowd….BUT they might actually be right this time.Just good to remember that broken clocks are right twice a day.
Martin: You seem to be buying the neocon line! Look into the machinations of Victoria Nuland (Robert Kagan’s wife) in the Ukraine coup. Look into NATO’s eastward move (in violation of Bush 1 assurances to the contrary) and emplacement of missiles on the Russian border. Why are US warships in the Black Sea? The US, not Russia, abrogates treaties. Read Putin’s recent Valdai speech. We invaded Russia in 1918-20, we sent Gary Powers to spy with the U2, we intercept cable messages on the ocean floor. We precipitated the Cuban missile crisis by establishing nuclear bases in Turkey, etc, etc,
Russia knows what it is like to be attacked and provoked by the West.
The world is under threat of nuclear war and your advice is keep your money and your family safe, IF the worst happens there will be NO money and NO family to protect.
I would like to make three points here. I believe that the Fat Man Atomic weapon dropped on Nagasaki, Japan had a yield of 20 kilotons. In other words 20 THOUSAND tons of TNT and not 20 tons as you have stated. The W 48 Tactical Nuclear Weapon, if it has a yield of just 72 tons is 0.072 kilotons.
2. The USA has already used Nuclear Weapons in warfare on several occasions and is, therefore and forever the first, and only World Power to do so!
3. I am petty sure that the US used a Tactical Nuclear Weapon at the start of the second Gulf War when it sent a “Bunker Buster” missile into Saddam Hussein’s bunker in the heart of Baghdad!
Martin, just stop to think for a moment, Safe places? from a nuclear war? you are joking?
There is no such thing as a limited nuclear war, this is the dangerous thinking of the deluded in Washington who actually think they can win such a war!!! I notice the west have not prepared any protections for their populations. Frankly if a nuclear war does break out the west deserve the pain coming their way, it is WE who have pushed Russia to the brink and WE who did nothing to stop our demented politicians whom as Putin observed are satanically driven.
“Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped up treasure together for the last days. James5:3 rather sounds like our elites doesn’t it?
regards
Donald
It sounds exactly like them!
I pray we never have a Nuclear War, I have grandchildren and Great GrandChildren, and don’t they know that in a Nuclear War No One actually Wins, they just destroy this beautiful world that we live in. and Not only kill so many, but would ruin everything else.Would be no farming no gardening, everything would be unusable after Nuclear. War, I hope none of the countries are that stupid. Thanks and God Bless!
You are incorrect! The bombs dropped on Japan were rated in Kilo Tons (1000xtons). You are comparing Tons to Kilo Tons when you said that tactical nukes are 4 times larger, they are actually hundreds of times less powerful. Not to say that it is okay to use any nukes, but please get the facts correct!!
Can NPT save a country from Nuclear Attacks?
After the first Nuclear Attack, what will happen to the NPT?
RUSSIA IS ONLY REACTING IN RESPONSE TO OUR MOVING NATO TO RUSSIA’S BORDER , PLUS ASSISTING IN MOVING UKRAINE AWAY FROM RUSSIAN INFLUENCE THUS THEIR CRIMEA ADVENTURE TO SECURE THEIR LEASED NAVAL BASE IN CRIMEA . IN ADDDITON THE DISRESPECTFUL VERBAL ATTACKS ON THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT BY OUR WAR MONGERS . WE HAD OUR CHANCE TO DEVELOPE A WORKING RELATIONSHIP WITH RUSSIA BUT THE NEO CONS WOULD HAVE NO PART IN IT. THIS IS A TWO WAY STREET .
Does what the former ussr doing in Ukraine, is that gonna jeopardize the GAAT within the EU an organization devoted to the promotion of freer trade through multilateral trade agreements. Is this gonna the increasing integration of economies particularly through trade and financial flows but also through the movement of ideas and people faciliated by the revolution in telecommunications and transportation.
Martin wrote, “Here are five reasons why they’re [tactical nuclear weapons] so dangerous:
Reason #1. They’re still massive. For example, the supposedly “lower yield†W48 tactical warhead packs the power of 72 tons of TNT. That’s over three-times larger than the “Fat Man†atomic bomb that leveled Nagasaki…”
Fat Man had the explosive power of 20,000 tons of TNT. Since when is 78 greater than 20,000!?
Let’s not put all the blame on Russia in this one. The US has been provoking Russia for some time now. The idiots that run the Pentagon have to create enemies or they are out of business. If America was really interested in democracy and peace the Pentagon would have been brought under control a long time ago. It is the single most destructive war monger in the world. Provoking a nuclear war is just plain stupidity and if you really think you can hide somewhere that you won’t be affected, good luck to you. A lot of good your gold will do you when everything around you, including your food is radio active. It is sheer folly to think you can hide from the ravages of nuclear war.
Not to belittle the horrific destructive potential of any nuclear weapon, tactical or otherwise. Your comparisons with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs appear to be out by a factor of 1000. As you correctly noted the W48 tactical weapon packs a punch of 72 tons of TNT. However the Hiroshima bomb weighed in at a yield of 15 kilotons of or 15,000 tons of TNT and the Nagasaki bomb at 21 kilotons, a considerable difference.
Russia is the aggressor is it? What a joke! what did general Mark Milley say recently? “we beat you harder than we’ve ever beaten you before” Nice!>>>By the way, USA has never beaten Russia.
Or your VP, who threatened to retaliate “at a time and place of own choosing” in response to a fabricated unsubstantiated assertion that Russia hacked those emails. You’ve been given some proof, have you, like that time with weapons of mass destruction? By the way, Saddam was such an ogre that he had to be taken out, didn’t he massacre a village of Kurds at least 10 years EARLIER with americans like Rumsfeld doing regular friendly visits to Saddam during all those years, only belatedly realizing after all those years what Saddam had done : you all lapped that up without any scepticism. ……Is it Russia that invaded Irak, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan? Is it Russia that is surrounding the USA in the manner in which NATO creeps closer and closer to the Russian border? Is it Russia that in 1997 brewed up a plan to take out 7 countries: Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Irak, Somalia, Sudan and Iran (Wesley Clarke’s comments on the Project for the new American century …you haven’t seen and heard him say that?) Is it Russia that subsidized NGOS in Ukraine to stir up the pot as soon as a fortunate discontent would emerge (like Soros-an absolute Russia hater- showered billions in there for years ). Do you see any Russians dealing out cookies to Black lives matter or other discontents you have in USA, like Victoria Nuland did on the maidan in Ukraine…or you see Russian politicians posing with Nazis in the USA like Mc Cain did in Ukraine?
What is happening is that the West realizes its usurping, stealing and bullying power is waning and they see no other solution than divert attention and create a monster. Like Hegel philosophized: identify something as EVIL and people will automatically veer to the opposite (Thesis and antithesis)Putin versus America.(what a joke!)..so they desperately manufacture crisis after crisis and permanent wars, seek to impose absolute control over education and information, spy on your own citizens so you can fully control them when necessary , seek to make the international rules with NATO as THE global enforcer, with anybody who disagrees to be killed, diminished, sanctioned under one pretext or another. Impose global trade deals (CETA, TIPPS) to stay dominant and create a medieval rulers and serfs world whilst keeping the media in your pocket so they will do the job of only telling half truths and lies and instead will concentrate on zombifying their audience with cheap programs about celebs, sports, gameshows……………… How can you be so incredibly naively blinkered?
Excuse me for pointing out that your timing is totally off: Nato initiated exercises close to Russian border with NUCLEAR weapons in tow, FOLLOWED by Putin reacting. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT>
To finish this ramble, lets repeat what Einstein predicted:” the next war will be fought with superior weapons and the one after that will be fought with sticks and stones”
YOU amongst many others in the media are helping to accelerate that outcome by so glibly parroting what you’ve been fed without any disagreement and with such knowing authority! When you obviously have not checked FACTS for yourself by researching alternative media.
Unlike that general you quote, what concerns ME and many others, is that the USA pretends to be the good guys but went around using depleted uranium in Fallujah, dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, put a siege around Mosul,( whilst crying foul when Russia does the same in Allepo), supplied arms clandestinely to rebels in Syria whilst fighting against the same type of rebels in Irak,, stir up problems in countries that don’t do as they want them to do so they have a pretext to create another war (they must use their weapons and sell them abroad to keep the military complex scoring at least 10 times as many weapons than the rest of the world put together, What concerns me also is pretending that the newly created white helmets in Syria are “presented” as a version of the red cross, whilst they are rebels well armed with cameras whose sole purpose is to record any Russian humanitarian mishap that occurs and feed it to the media in the West, or
letting headcutting, Yemen bombing, Saoudi Arabia have THE seat in the UN Human rights council(because they are one of the major financial contributors and to keep them on the side of the “western allies”),
Nuclear war, not likely? If you don’t make some noises I wouldn’t be so sure! Just think about how Hitler with the aid of Goering’s propaganda managed to enthusiastically stir the whole of Germany into starting WW2. For evil to triumph all good people have to do is do nothing, say nothing, see nothing….
MARIA CRAIG: you may agree with policies Hillary PROMISES she will institute but -by golly- she is the worst warmonger of them all! Sociopathic, I would say: she orchestrated that war in Libya and smirked happily “we came, we saw, he died” after watching Gaddafi being beaten and sodomized to death. You only need to see that the neocons are very eagerly supporting her!?
By the way, Gaddafi had FREE education (incl unversityi) and healthcare FOR EVERYONE. Also each family was housed in a decent house. Did you know that?
France wanted to take revenge because they had expected a huge deal from Gaddafi and he didn’t give them that pleasure. USA was worried that they would not be able to keep plundering Africa’s vast resources because Gaddafi was on the verge of establishing a pan African conglomerate with Gaddafi supplying loans so that these countries wouldn’t have to accept bad deals anymore from Europe or America due to being the financial underdog.
“Gaddafi had FREE education (incl unversityi) ” – BTW – university has always been free in USSR. believe it or not – there was even small monthly “scholarship” in cash. And “technical colleges” – vacational, 2-3 year – same free, plus cash. Then in russia. as well as medical care.
A dose of reality to add to this article:

MILLARD, full appreciation for referring to this incisive John Pilger article. I wished everybody would read it slowly and let it sink in.
Come on folks,Look at you all, discussing war,the size of this and that warhead,You should all being threatning your leaders with death just by mentioning the word war,if they are so bright, yeah IF,I use the word loosely, solutions are always avialable.Remember do you want someone close to you to die defending your leaders ideas.Look at recent events, they went down a bomb,Get (keep) a life!
Go to the blog…..non-intervention.com. This is written by a retired CIA analyst. The bottom line…..he says that the mess we are in, internationally, is mostly caused by the USA, intervening in foreign countries.
We have put idiots in power in many countries, just because they “favor US interests”. Many times this means they are willing to allow US companies to come into their countries, and take the countries assets….while paying the moron President his “commission”…to him self or family members…..THIS IS WHY MANY COUNTRIES HATE THE USA…Do you think they really care about our morals or lack of same?……NO…If the US would keep out of other countries, we could save TRILLIONS of dollars and American lives.
There is no need to “Democratize”….the Mid East, or any other country. Where does it say this in the Constitution????…It DOES NOT..!!…Indeed what did George Washington say in his farewell address?….” To Avoid foreign entanglements…!!!!”….So if you want your children to be “safe”…..Tell the gov’t to get the hell out of the Mid East, Asia, CEntral and South America…Let those people choose their form of gov’t…TOO BAD if USA does not like it. Concentrate on making USA a strong and great power. Do we really care if Mrs Muhammad can vote or drive a car?…IS it worth spending one US dollar or wasting one US life?…IF the Sunnis and Shiites want to kill each other…let them. It should be no concern of the USA…We don’t need their oil any more……………
The next war will be “ELECTRONIC”. End of message….
Oh really? Electronic measures and countermeasures are always the first things to happen (Information warfare), but those are only the prelude to the destructive warfare that permanently removes the enemy’s assets and war-fighting capability. Today the electronic options include jamming of communications and radar systems, use of various kinds of EMP weapons (Nuclear EMP and Vircators), cyber-attacks, stealth measures, etc. Nuclear war has been a very real possibility ever since 1945. World War Two ended in a brief nuclear war. We have had close calls all along. I was a USAF electronic warfare officer, and I was on the SSMADS NORAD Sector surveillance dais during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. That was a sobering experience, and I am thankful that I am not working in such a place today! We can blame the current administration for letting the Russians renovate their nuclear capability while we actually downsized. And worse, the Russians will be working together with China this time. I believe we are in far more more danger now than we were during October of 1962.
Dear American Friends,
Let’s slow down, many of the points made about HRC and Trump are correct. The discussions about bomb sizes are also close to correct. The ideas and thoughts about our past leaders actions and the current Russian leaders concerns are petty close to accurate.
During 1962 and 1963, I served with small group of Airman and flight crews in a special isolated SAC operation in the Artic. Our mission was to maintain a six KC- 97 refueling
tankers aircraft that would refuel B -52 bombers that would fly over the Artic to bomb Russia.
Now some 54 years later, and after reading all the emails notes above, I would like to share my thoughts:
1. I feel our leaders from both political parties have made many bad decisions since WII that have put our country into conflicts and increased our debt by trillions and left the world a much more dangerous place.
2. I do not understand why anyone with common sense would want someone like HRC with her track record to lead America,
3. Our nation is in a very dangerous financial situation, as are Russia, China, EU and most of the other countries in the world, which could lead to war.
4. With the current weak and corrupt administration ( Obama Care, IRS, more taxes, more regulations, slow growth, racial unrest, a foreign policy mess), the current election cycle ( HRC e mails, media corruption, manga donors in both partie) and the current world financial and political environment, I certianly see why we are all up set, but STOP and think we really have a chance to make a real change.
5. I feel we American voters have an opportunity to elect an real outsider who really has some accomplishments ( all though not perfect) outside government who says what he thinks ( all though sometimes I would like a little less), so all is not lost. Mr. Trump hopefully will drain the swamp, put a collar on the millitary industrial neo cons turn our country and the world in the right direction.
At this time I would like to thank my Higher Power for giving me the opportiny to be born in the USA, having the opportunity to serve my country, get a good education and
Be part of the great American Dream over the last 75 years plus.

One answer, get rid of your fed and the Un, you Americans have to act now before the gangster Clinton wipes you out.
Has Julian says Trump will not be permitted to become your leader, the illuminati will see to that?
the real problem is the party system that was if you check your history created by the democrats. The republicans lose because they are playing the democrat game and arenot good at it because the democrats are organized. The solution is to go back to the basics. No parties! Just representatives that are controlled by the people they are elected to represent. How do we the people fix it then? vote them out and replace them with non-partisan representatives. The people have to join together no matter who they think is more corrupt and fix it. I hear both sides they are both screaming the other is corrupt.
If the people join a non-partisan movement they can move the party system out. I was thinking of calling the movement True North? lets get this going ?
Pay no attention this any threat of war… America’s First Black President Nobel Peace Prize winner will step in and prevent it.
The pentagon expenditures for defense are more than a multiple of combined budgets for the next 3 powers. See this link: http://www.globalfirepower.com/defense-spending-budget.asp
It’s nonsense to talk disparagingly of U.S. military power. Stop the fear mongering. We won the Cold War by outspending the former USSR in military terms. There’s no comparison today between #1 and Russia #4.
Follow the arms dealing money- it leads to Shillary!
Enough of this bs. How much ‘invading has Russia been doing? Napoleon invaded Russia. Germany invaded Russia – twice. Nikita Khrushchev, USSR president and Ukrainian national, “gave” Crimea to Ukraine reputedly after a night of drinking. Recently the US engineered the overthrow of the pro-Russian Ukraine government. Russia simply took Crimea back. The US assured Russia that newly independent eastern bloc countries would not be allowed into NATA. The US lied. The US secretly put US nukes in Turkey. In response, Russia put nukes into Cuba. Russia did not back down over the blockade. Rather, the US agreed to take its nukes out of Turkey, but quietly, in order to save face. Yet all Americans hear about is “Russian aggression!” BS! It’s the US government that’s doing all the aggressing. If Trump wins our election, relations will likely improve. If Billary wins, odds are much higher you can put your head between your legs and kiss your *ss goodbye.
Dr. Weiss, I must respectfully request that you refrain from using scare tactics that are based on incorrect information to bring in new investors. Tactical nuclear bombs are not the end-all weapons that will wipe out civilization as we know it. While your citation for the W48 explosive yield being 70 tons TNT is correct, your values for the power of the bombs that were dropped on Japan are WAY off – they were around 10,000 to 20,000 tons TNT equivalent!! An even bigger concern is thermonuclear weapons. It is known that Russia has detonated a 50,000,000 ton TNT equivalent explosion, with some speculation that bombs greater than 100,000,000 million tons of TNT exist. The strategic value W48’s is that they are easier to deliver and there is no doubt that they can inflict horrific damage, but thermonuclear bombs still remain the biggest deterrent – and a rather good one at that. As such, it still remains highly unlikely that Russia and NATO are going to get into an all-out nuclear war.
Hillary gives 20% of our uranium to Russia (for a donation to the tax free Clinton Foundation ) who sells it to Iran to use on us and Israel and no one is outraged. Hillary sells stinger missiles to Libya who gives them to the Taliban to shoot down our Chinook helicopters in Afghanistan and no one is outraged. She should be hung for treason.
While Iran is surrounded by USA, Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Israel nuclear weapons bases and France, UK warships with nuclear weapons, Iran accepted NPT. Thousands of nuclear weapons are targeting Iran. What can we do with 1 or 2 or 3 nuclear bombs? The answer is Nothing. So we chose NPT. It’s funny that while we are a member of NPT, nobody sells Uranium to Iran and in that case Iran and Russia “exchanged” Uranium with Enriched uranium.
Iran has 50% of the shares of a large uranium enrichment plant in France. 14 years ago we said to the USA that until any country (especially France) sells fuel rods of uranium to us, we are not going to enrich uranium. But they thought we can not enrich uranium, so they did not sell those to us. We had to do it by spending billions of dollars and our scientists blood that killed by USA and Israel TR groups. Now USA tells us to stop enriching uranium and we tell them this was for 14 years ago and it’s too late.
USA always selects dictators and terrorist organizations as their friends. One day USA helps them to murdering peoples, another day kills them because of that murdering. This is USA policy.
How will our gold & silver coins be used or be worth in a cashless society?
RUSSIA HAS BEEN INVADED THREE TIME , FIRST BY NAPOLIAN , AND TWICE BY GERMANY . WITH MOVING NATO TO THE RUSSIAN BORDER AND PLACING MISSILES IN EUROPE AND CLAIMING THOSE MISSILES WERE TO PROTECT AGAINST IRAN [DID WE THINK RUSSIA WAS GOING TO BELIEVE THAT ?] , RUSSIA IS SIMPLY RESPONDING TO WHAT THEY PERCEIVE AS A TRHEAT . ADD THE VOICES OF OUR NEO-CONS WHO ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR AN ENEMY SO WE CAN GEAR UP THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX AND YOU HAVE THE INGREDIANTS FOR WAR. IF WE PULL BACK THIS NATO NONSENSE . THE RUSSIANS IAM SURE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF WAR HAVING LOST MILLIONS ON THE BATTLE FIELD. . GET THE WAR MONGERS OUT OF WASHINGTON AND WE CAN RESTORE PEACE WITH RUSSIA. THEY DID REACH OUT TO US AND WE IGNORED IT . THERE IS A REASON WE HAVE BEEN IN WAR FOR CLOSE NOW OFF AND ON FOR 60 YEARS.
A nuclear weapon is rated in kilotons. In other words, a 70 kiloton weapon is equivalent to 70,000 tons of TNT. 70,000 tons of TNT equals 70,000 tons times 2,000 pounds/ton which equals 140,000,000 pounds of TNT ( do you have a headache yet? ).
The reason for my comment is that I remember that the bomb on Hiroshima was rated as 20000 tons of TNT.
