PORT ST. LUCIE — When Keith Kotal and his wife applied for the Florida Hardest Hit Fund after the mortgage assistance program opened in April, they had high hopes for some relief on their house payments.
Four months later Kotal called for a status update on his application and was shocked with his discovery.
“They said her (his wife) name is not on the note, only on the mortgage. So, my whole file was denied,” said Kotal, whose wife, mother-in-law and children age 13 and 20 also live in the home. “If I didn’t agree with the decision, I had to file a grievance. ”
