JUPITER, Florida (March 28, 2011) — Star One, Randolph-Brooks and Police & Fire Federal Credit Union are among the nation’s strongest credit unions with assets of $3 billion and greater, according to the latest quarterly review by Weiss Ratings, the nation’s leading independent provider of bank, credit union and insurance company ratings. Meanwhile, Suncoast Schools, America First, and Wescom Central Credit Union are a few of the largest companies on Weiss Ratings’ list of the weakest credit unions.
Weiss Ratings covers 7,437 credit unions, assigning a Financial Strength Rating from A+ to E- to each, based on capitalization, asset quality, profitability, liquidity and other factors. Weiss Ratings found that 723, or 9.7%, of all credit unions received a rating of B+ and higher, while 2,584, or 34.7%, credit unions merited inclusion in Weiss Ratings’ Weakest List, with a Weiss Rating of D+ or lower.
