Money and Markets Weekly Wrap

The Money and Markets Team | Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 8:30 am

What follows is our weekly wrap with links to the most recent Money and Markets articles.

Larry Edelson named three reasons why some mining shares will soon become a major buy – but you have to know which ones. Read here why this time around, investors should be very selective.

Mike Larson took an opportunity on Monday to wish everyone Happy Memorial Day and thank those who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces.

Although tech stocks are going sideways, Jon Markman believes they look upward. In his weekly column he also shared the 10 signs that the U.S. economy is reaccelerating.

According to Mike Larson, “this graduation season could prove to be a lot more stressful for the Class of 2014 than it ever was back in my day or yours” because of debt.  “Many believe the enormous student debt burdens are increasingly holding the U.S. economy back”. Bill Hall warns: “The world and the global stock markets need growth to get going again. I am concerned that without growth we’ll fall out of the economic sweet spot for investors.” To see the situation the way Bill does, read his weekly article and take a look at the charts.

Don Lucek argues it “is just the time where we should be adding exposure to the cyclical sectors and to those other little pockets of the market where individual investor interest is likely to return.” Find out more by clicking on this link.

“If you want to own a house today, you can, if you are A) Rich and B) Can pay cash.” – Mike Larson analyzed the real estate market and drew a few conclusions that you must read if you are considering buying a house these days.

The past week Mike Burnick shared how investors can profit from the “stealth” market correction and revealed an ETF worth your consideration.

On Thursday our Money and Markets’ team learned that the U.S. economy shrank 1 percent during the first quarter of 2014 – for the first time in three years. Check out this chart of the day to see it with your own eyes.

Mike Larson took a chance to give his take on the economic situation. As he says, “As investors, you can certainly profit in this environment … But as Americans, you have to wonder: Can we have an economy where shareholders prosper, but everyone else doesn’t?”

On Friday, Mike Larson encouraged investors to be cautious as volatility takes a snooze. Here are the two important applications the lack of volatility might have for you.

Best wishes,

The Money and Markets’ Team
